When President Kennedy made this speech more than 40 years ago the space program was just in its infancy, but with this quote from his speech, the legacy lives on.
“We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.”
When I was training for public speaking a decade ago, a small part of this speech was my assignment. I was to note the intonation, the conviction, and the pauses used throughout the speech and then attempt to duplicate them. It was a remarkable assignment as my classmates, one after another put themselves in the position of their assigned speaker. Their words held the audience rapt with their words. We heard from many great speakers of our time – through the voices of my classmates.
Each of them was building success in their presentation by patterning the success of the original speaker. You can watch the whole speech below — and think about how you can pattern the success of others to create successes of your own.
